OASIS Clinical Model

At OASIS Ascent, we specialize in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), a well-known and research-based therapy model. We recognize that each individual has unique needs, so we also utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as needed to provide personalized care. Our goal is to offer a comprehensive and evidence-based approach to your teen's mental health treatment.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a well-known approach to mental health treatment, developed to help individuals struggling with emotional and behavioral dysregulation more effectively. It emphasizes both acceptance and the need for change, a duality that fosters profound personal insight and growth. Central to DBT are four pivotal coping strategies and skills:

  • Mindfulness: which enhances present-moment awareness
  • Distress Tolerance: crucial for navigating intense emotional situations
  • Emotion Regulation: which offers strategies to manage and shift emotions in a healthy manner
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness: enabling individuals to communicate needs and set boundaries more assertively

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a practical approach to problem-solving, linking thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It emphasizes the importance of identifying, challenging, and altering negative thinking patterns and behaviors. By guiding students through the process of recognizing negative emotions and reframing dysfunctional thoughts, CBT facilitates a significant shift in their emotional response and behavior.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) represents a transformative tool within our OASIS Clinical Model, particularly for students grappling with the aftereffects of trauma or persistent distressing memories. This innovative psychotherapy technique enables the mind to reprocess traumatic experiences in a way that diminishes their ongoing emotional impact.

We believe that personalized treatment is the key to helping your teen thrive. By combining these evidence-based therapies with comprehensive assessments and round-the-clock support from a compassionate community, we can tailor your teen's treatment to their individual needs. This individualized approach empowers each student with the skills necessary to thrive as they navigate life's challenges. It also provides the treatment flexibility needed for them to heal and grow more effectively.

Comprehensive and Holistic Approach

At OASIS Ascent, we believe in taking a comprehensive and holistic approach to treatment. This means that we thoroughly evaluate each of our students' unique needs, providing them with comprehensive assessments of their physical, social, academic, and mental health. We then focus on empowering each student with the coping skills they need to overcome their current and future challenges.

Our experts use these comprehensive assessments and skills to collaborate with your family members and develop personalized treatment plans that cater to their unique needs. We don't just focus on treating the symptoms; these holistic plans help your teen thrive both at our facility and beyond. With our compassionate and empathetic approach, we provide the care and support that your teen deserves.

Holistic Approach: Dimensions of Wellness

At OASIS, we firmly believe that the key to successful teen therapy lies in adopting a comprehensive and holistic approach. To achieve this, we prioritize the evaluation of each student and focus on integrating various dimensions of wellness into their treatment. These include but are not limited to:

  • Emotional & Social: A psychosocial evaluation, biopsychosocial assessment, comprehensive mental health diagnosis, personalized treatment plan, individual and family therapy, group therapy, experiential therapy
  • Physical: Psychiatric and medication evaluation, Health and Physical Assessment, Nutrition screening, Genome testing, Self-harm screen assessment, medication management, sleep monitoring, onsite child and adolescent psychiatry, onsite nursing staff
  • Mental/Academic: Academic Assessment, Daily Schooling, GED, ACT & SAT Prep, Academic Advisor or Certified Teacher for Individualized Support, Blended learning model, and credit recovery.
  • Occupational:  Life Skills Aptitude Test, College & Career Readiness, Goal & Life Planning
  • Spiritual/environmental: Daily exercise, yoga, weekly experiential therapy

Our unique approach allows us to effectively treat students not just for their behavioral or mental health conditions but also to look at them more comprehensively. This way, we can provide long-lasting healing and create real, lasting change that can benefit the student in all areas of their life.

Medication-Management

Psychiatric Services & Medication Management

To ensure the complete healing of your child, it is crucial to address both their physical and neurological requirements. OASIS strives to meet this objective by offering each of our students a thorough psychiatric and medication evaluation, along with efficient medication management.

Nursing

Ensuring the physical well-being of your child is of utmost importance to us here at OASIS. To this end, we have put in place a competent on-site nursing team that attends to the medical needs of all our students. Our dedicated nurse is always present during the day to provide immediate medical attention whenever needed. Furthermore, they are just a call away, even after hours, and are always ready to handle any health emergencies that may arise. They are also actively involved in scheduling appointments with medical specialists and doctors to ensure our students get the best possible care.

Individual & Family Therapy

At OASIS, not only do we take a comprehensive approach to student assessment but we also ensure that each individual immediately begins working on their therapeutic needs. Our team of highly skilled therapists provides individual and family therapy for a total of three hours each week, with the balance between the two tailored to the specific needs of each student. This personalized treatment plan allows us to provide targeted therapy that supports individual and family goals for long-lasting change.

Our individual therapy sessions allow our licensed therapists to work closely with each student, focusing on specific personal goals to facilitate growth and healing. Meanwhile, family therapy offers our family therapists the opportunity to assess your family dynamics and provide guidance to parents on how they can create change, structure, and healing in the family system, all while supporting the student. These complementary approaches offer valuable insight and support for both individuals and families.

We recognize the importance of not only helping students achieve personal growth but also ensuring that the family system is supported and strengthened for a successful transition back home. By focusing on both the individual and the family as a whole, we can create a therapeutic environment that promotes positive change and continued support for our students and their families.

Group Therapy

At OASIS, we recognize the crucial role that group therapy plays in the therapeutic process. Research shows that it can be more impactful and transformative than individual therapy. That's why we offer our students between 10-15 hours of various group therapy sessions tailored to their individual needs. Our group therapy sessions include but are not limited to DBT, CBT, EMDR, Psychoeducational, Family Systems Process Group, Parent Support Group, Open Processing, Goal and Life Planning, Mindfulness, Art, Life Skills, and Social Skills.

When combined with individual and family therapy, this comprehensive approach in a residential setting sets us apart from traditional outpatient therapy. Students will often find that group therapy in a residential setting helps build a community, offers a safe space for healing and connecting with others going through similar things, and develops social skills, altruism, confidence, and overall life skills. Our ultimate goal is to provide a supportive and therapeutic environment that fosters personal growth and healing for your child.

Experiential Rec Therapy

Experiential/Rec Therapy

One of the great advantages of receiving residential care is the opportunity to take advantage of various therapeutic approaches, such as experiential and recreational therapy. Both types of therapy complement talk therapy and offer clients a chance to delve deeper into their issues and themselves, facilitating even more progress on their path to healing.

Experiential therapy is an expressive approach that allows clients to immerse themselves in a given activity, rather than just relying on traditional talk therapy. It can take on many different forms, utilizing a range of tools and activities like role-playing, acting, props, recreational activities, and expressive modalities. Experiential therapy can be incredibly effective in treating a range of mental health problems, such as trauma, behavioral disorders, destructive anger, grief, eating disorders, compulsive behavior, and drug addiction.

Recreational therapy is a specific form of experiential therapy that involves physical recreation and activities to assist clients struggling with a serious mental health condition. This type of therapy can help clients to strengthen their physical abilities, social skills, team building, communication skills, confidence, and gain deeper insight into their therapeutic journey. At OASIS, students participate in recreational therapy for several hours per week.
